About Me
I am an award winning freelance arts journalist and publishing commentator, whose work appears in newspapers from the Daily Mail and Independent on Sunday to the Financial Times.
An expert on UK publishing, I write a column for the Author, the magazine of the Society of Authors. I am also editor-at-large for the Author, on the editorial board of Mslexia, the magazine for women writers, and edit The Deal, the official magazine of the London Book Fair. I have edited two groundbreaking reports into cultural diversity,Free Verse, about the poetry world, and In Full Colour, about discrimination in publishing. I am a visiting lecturer on the MA in Creative Writing at Brunel University.
When not collecting editorial titles, I have presented radio shows, including Textual Analysis on www.Channel4Radio.com, which features half hour in-depth interviews with authors. A respected investigative journalist, I have uncovered stories as diverse as the truth about prostitute memoirs, the cost to authors of cheap books and hidden racism in publishing.
There is more to me than publishing. I review music and film, write regularly about the creative industries, and have interviewed celebrities from Michael Palin to Bill Nighy. If you ask nicely, I’ll tell you who I liked best.
